Frazer Throwback Thursday – A Record Setting Fleet with the Houston Fire Department
For this Throwback Thursday, it’s a bird’s-eye view of lots of red and white! We head back to 2005 – when “We Belong Together” by Mariah Carey topped the music charts, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” hit the big screen, and Furby was a top toy! 2005 is the year that the Houston Fire Department ordered a fleet of 21 Frazer generator-powered EMS Vehicles. The huge order was made possible by a grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Frazer built and delivered all 21 emergency vehicles in what was a company record at the time – 60 days! Check out our History Page at any time to see great Kodak Moments in time!
A Mobile Stroke Unit Can Reduce Critical Care Response Times

According to figures compiled by the American Stroke Association, about 795,000 people are victims of strokes each year. Strokes are caused by blockages or ruptures of the blood vessels that provide the brain with life-giving nutrients and oxygen. Recent studies have shown that implementing mobile stroke unit vehicles can improve the outcomes for patients. Here are some of the most important facts about strokes and how mobile units can reduce the impact of these dangerous health conditions for patients. Time Is Critical Medical experts have found that the first few minutes after a stroke occurs can be critical to the survival and recovery of patients, who could lose as much as two million brain cells per minute during these events. EMS vehicles that are equipped with lifesaving stroke units can help paramedics and first responders to identify the problem more quickly and to administer the right treatments and medications to improve outcomes for patients after a stroke. CT Scanners Are Essential for Fast Diagnosis Mobile stroke treatment units are equipped with CT scanners and other testing equipment to diagnose the type and location of the stroke. Ischemic strokes are caused by blood clots and require a different treatment plan than hemorrhagic strokes, making CT scans an absolute necessity to ensure that patients receive the care they need during the critical first moments after their stroke. A qualified CT technologist is also required to administer these tests and to interpret the results on site. In many cases, a mobile stroke unit also carries a nurse and paramedics to provide support and medical attention to the stroke victim. Advanced Technologies Aid in Treatment A mobile stroke unit is also often equipped with advanced telemedicine equipment that allows doctors and neurologists in the hospital to examine patients remotely, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and improved outcomes for patients on their way to the hospital after a stroke. By putting physicians directly in touch with paramedics, emergency personnel and the patient, telemedicine can have a significant impact on the chances of survival and a full recovery for these patients. If your agency is considering the addition of a mobile stroke unit to your fleet of emergency medical services vehicles, working with a trusted used ambulance dealer can often provide significant cost savings on the price of implementing these services. All About EMS Vehicles Remounts

Emergency medical service vehicles, more commonly referred to as EMS vehicles, are designed specifically to take on the challenges of providing care to critically injured or sick individuals on the way to the hospital or other health care provider. For aging vehicles or those that have sustained serious damage in a crash or other incident, remounts can provide a new lease on life and a convenient way for agencies to save money over the cost of a brand-new vehicle. Here are some important points to remember about remounts for your emergency medical service vehicle. What Is a Remount? EMS vehicles include a chassis, cab, engine and an array of components designed to help emergency services personnel to provide safe and effective care for their patients. A remount involves removing the EMS module from the current cab and chassis and installing it on a new cab and chassis. In some cases, your remount specialist will also renovate and refurbish the EMS module to ensure functionality for your agency. Services Included in Most EMS Remounts Companies that provide remounts for EMS vehicles typically include the following services in the process: A full inspection of the frame and connections for the EMS module Removal of the EMS module from the current chassis and transfer to a newer chassis and cab Extension of the exhaust pipe to ensure proper fit for the EMS module Alignment and suspension checks for the new chassis and cab Inspection and possible replacement of bumpers, light housings and door mechanisms and switches Replacement of main front wiring harness for hookup to the new cab Painting and finishing of exterior surfaces Replacement of cables, wiring and fuses as needed Replacement of all warning lights and signals to ensure optimal safety Installation of consoles to control sirens and flashing light signals Assessment of all systems within the EMS module, including the oxygen system, the heating and cooling system, thermostats, cot mounting hardware and flooring Assessment of interior cabinets Your used ambulance dealer can provide you with expert guidance on effective strategies for your EMS remount. At Frazer, we offer customized remount services for EMS modules that can help your agency make an effective investment. If your chassis is beginning to show the telltale signs of age and wear, our remount services are an ideal way to save money while ensuring the greatest safety and utility for first responders.
